Greetings!
How about the temps and the good news
I keep hearing from all of you! Business is
picking up. Yippee!
Thank you to all who entered the
CotY Awards. WOW is what I can
say of the wealth of talent we have
remodeling homes with all sorts of challenges.
Kudos to our CotY Chair George Brunell CR of
AFS Building Group.,
Inc. Again, he put together an
outstanding group of judges and answered the
questions of many new entrants who many even
won! Let's keep our fingers crossed that
they do well in the regional and national
competition here in Phoenix April 7-10th, 2010.
Make sure you attend the Glitz &
Gamble to see all of the entries and
the winners and to have the opportunity to win
some great prizes. Best of show will also
be announced...to be placed prominently on the
new NARI website and on the 2010 NARI directory
cover.
If you
would like to learn more about committees and
contributing to the Chapter, give me a call at
(480) 419-1631. Our Chapter operates largely by
dedicated volunteers who strongly support NARI's
high standards, ethics and integrity -- members
just like you. It's easy and
fun.
Thank you
for another great year!

President's Message
Brian Puglisi CR
President, NY Design Build
Inc.
Dear Friends and
Colleagues:
This being my
last President's Message, I have to
reflect on the past year. Sometimes things move
so fast and time slips by us that we need to
look at the successes and shortcomings as
learning experiences. Being Chapter President
has been one of the most fulfilling experiences
I have had. We made tremendous strides for
our Chapter this year. A few come to mind
including: 1.
Our new Home Show presence and partnership with
Maricopa County Home Shows/Alaska
Events. 2.
An Ethics Committee that is watching out for our
members. 3.
An Education Committee that will be bringing in
CR study groups, EPA Required Lead Training and
dynamic guest speakers and seminars for 2010.
4. A
Government Affairs Committee who will be keeping
us up to date with new
legislation. 5.
And at the top of my list, NARI National's
recognition of our Chapter's continued
success by being chosen to host the 2010
NARI National Spring Conference and
Evening of Excellence April
7-10th. All of these
accomplishments are a direct result of a
strategic plan that was set in to motion five
years ago with Past Presidents Jerry Corell,
Patrick Benkowski CR, Ivan Kolesik Jr. and Gary
Wheat CAPS CR. With their guidance, and the most
dynamic and dedicated board of directors this
Chapter has seen along with our very own and
well respected Chapter Director, Jetta
Atkinson, my job was relatively easy. I would
like to say "Thank You" to all of you. It has
been a pleasure to serve with
you. So what does the future hold?
Well I am very pleased that Julie Cook will be
the new Chapter President. Julie is an energetic
and intelligent person with great ideas. I
am confident that she will lead us toward our
Chapter goals and bring new insight
and direction. We now have one of the Chapter's
most diverse Board of Directors ever who are
active, committed and willing to take on
the challenges of working together towards
making our Chapter better, stronger and more
recognized. Last month our meeting
at SunWest Appliance
Distributing was another hit-- fine
food and informative guest speakers. Ivan
Kolesik Jr. gave us an update on the ROC
sweeps that have been pillaging the recovery
funds and we had a mini seminar on Viking
Appliances by Jim McCabe of SunWest. Phil
Stratton, The Director of Chapter
Services from NARI National gave us an
update on all NARI matters. These are
exciting times. Thank you
to all of you for all of your support this
past year. I will be moving on to Chairman of
the Board in 2010 and I will be very active with
the Education Committee along with Gary Wheat
CAPS CR in the coming year. I also am working on
the National Education committee and revising
the CR study guides.
I am happy
to announce that all CR Designations will be
accredited. These are the only accredited
certifications in our industry. So now is the
time to sign up for a study group.
Contact Jetta if you would like to get info
on our upcoming classes.
It has been
my pleasure to serve you as President.
Sincerely,
Brian Puglisi

The Art of
Follow-Up
Many remodelers are
entrepreneurs of sorts who are passionate and
love pitching to prospective customers. They
often forget the importance of following up with
prospects, and even with current customers. Add
to this the difficult market environment, which
has would be customers more reluctant than ever
to pull money out of their wallets, practicing
the art of follow-up becomes more
important.
The key to following up
effectively with customers to win more business
is to understand that people don't buy when
you're ready. They buy when they're ready. So
it's imperative to be "in front of them," ready
to do business, at exactly that moment.
Here are some recommended
ways to master the art of follow-up from Rich
Sloan, co-founder of StartupNation.com, a
leading business and networking site.
Build trust.
Do special and thoughtful things after coming in
contact with a possible customer. Mail a
handwritten note. Send an email. Call them on
the phone.
Be prompt.
If you set an expectation, always meet or exceed
it. Promptness is a simple way to build
confidence and trust.
Use a variety of
mediums. Sometimes nothing is better
than face-to-face at a home show. But follow-up!
Call. Better yet, meet in person. Is your
website reflective of your quality of work?
Network. Get involved with professional
organizations. Volunteer.
Be a thought
leader. Instead of constantly trying to
sell, figure out how to position yourself as a
provider of quality, professionalism and
integrity in the industry. Have you won awards
with your work? Are you certified in your
industry? Differentiate yourself. People
remember.

Then enter your password. If
you have never been there before, type in the
word "password." Then click on to "log-in" to

NARI Exhibitor Block at January Maricopa
County Home & Garden
Show
We hope you will take
advantage of an exclusive special feature for
NARI members. Not only do we have the "NARI
Corridor" of members, there is an advertised
feature called the free 1:1 consultations with
NARI associates. This is a great opportunity to
meet face to face with homeowners to promote
your business while representing NARI.
Why have a booth? The
January Home show is the largest attended home
show of the year. Have your booth in the NARI
corridor and tout your membership at the
booth.
Each exhibiting NARI member
will be given the opportunity to be the industry
expert during the block scheduled between 11am
and 5pm all three days of the show. Each
consultation should last no longer than 20
minutes. Time slots are filling up fast so
reserve your preferred time today.
Advertising for the NARI
consultations will be included in TV
commercials, radio commercials, Arizona Republic
advertisements, the show program and website and
more.
