Greetings!

Hi:
A big thank you to Patrick Benkowski CR for helping me with the website. If any of you would like to add data, contribute photos and even put them on the website, I WOULD LOVE IT!

We could also use some help on the Spring Convention. We are only as good as the sum of our volunteers. I will say this until the cows come home, and I've been up many a night and seen them or maybe they were bobcats or the javalenas in my neck of the foothills.

You will most likely be getting two messages from me a month about all that is going on. Many of you know I like to talk or email, but there is so much important info coming my way that I need all of you to be apprised of.

If you aren't on a committee, I am asking for 1-3 hours a month from someone from your organization to participate.

I only strike with wet noodles so I am very accomodating, and Julie is pretty darn nice as President too.

Warmest Regards,
Jetta Atkinson

About our Host - Arizona Fire & Water Restoration,  Inc.

Arizona Fire & Water Restoration, Inc. has been a proud member of NARI for many years. As veterans in the Restoration Industry, we recognize the value that membership with NARI provides.

We're thrilled to once again be hosting the NARI Dinner Meeting on February 10t0h at our home office and warehouse.  Lyle Book will be doing a short presentation on mold and minimizing the risk, plus similar to last year we will have several hands-on demonstrations!  Oh and don't forget your jewelry, we will be able to clean it with our commercial Ultra-sonic machine!

Most of you are aware of the many emergency services we provide including fire board-ups, stuctural stabilzation and water mitigation, but did you know we are also experts in Mold, Odor Removal and Asbestos? Got a project in need of asbestos removal or mold remediation?  Stubborn odor?   Our team of our professional technicians are available 24/7, to help you identify and diagnose the problem.  Several of our team will also be on hand at the Dinner meeting and you will be able to meet and greet with them and ask any question you may have.

Look forward to seeing you all on February 10th.  I am also heading up the marketing committee and the directory committee and Jetta and I could use some hours of your time. Call me at 480-775-8000 or call her at 480-419-1631. We are only as strong as those of you who volunteer.

We are a tough group, but we need your help.

Let's deliver.

Sincerely,
Shawn Ward, Arizona Fire & Water Restoration, Inc.

Welcome back to the February addition of the Greater Phoenix Chapter of NARI newsletter.
I don't know if it just me or are you also feeling like there is a lot more positive energy going through our chapter?
It might be because the business climate is improving.
It might be because people are so happy they survived 2009.
It might simply be because many of our members decided to step up and make a difference.
Our members are pretty extraordinary! They understand the importance of participating in our organization for the benefit of the whole.
Here are some of the things that we accomplished in January:
            * The New Home Show Committee had our booth at the Jan Home show promoting NARI to the community & contractors staffed by our members.
            * EPA mandated LEAD training started the first of many classes - we are the leaders in the Phoenix metro area.
* The dynamic Marketing Committee was formed to increase awareness of the Greater Phoenix Chapter so expect to see newsworthy items and the new materials available for the March home show.
* The Mentoring Committee was started, again, to assist new, non-sponsored members find their way around the organization.
* The National Convention Committee is busy working on hosting the national convention in April. I can't put it more simply, we need your help and we need it now. And it is fun work to do. Plus you can attend dozens of meetings a no charge and learn what other remodelers are doing across the country.

These are just a few of the changes/additions that were made and you can expect more where these came from.
Now you can see why there is such a different feeling within the Greater Phoenix Chapter of NARI.
Stay tuned to coming e-newsletters and email blasts. I'm counting on all of you to get involved.

Greater Phoenix NARI EPA  Lead Training - Sign up now!

February 25 & 26th

The EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule will become fully effective and enforceable on April 22, 2010. The Rule applies to all "renovations," including many typical remodeling activities, performed for "compensation" in pre-1978 "target housing" and pre-1978 "child-occupied facilities" when the work will disturb paint, stain, shellac and varnish that has not been tested and certified as being lead free.

NARI is again hosting classes on February 25th & 26th. Class size is limited to 20 per class and nearly everyone needs to be certified.  For information on the classes, including location and cost, contact the EPA Lead Task Force Chair, Steve Shinn GCP  of Homework Remodels at Steve@homeworkremodels.com.

Special Note: if your company or firm does not send in their registration, it will not matter if you have your employees certified, you will still not be in compliance. This is a separate EPA requirement to register companies and it requires an additional $300. The EPA can take up to 90 days to process these forms.

We are a family-owned business of 60 employees.  Of our 10 managers, only 2 have worked with us less than 10 years.  We are licensed Trane, Carrier and Lennox dealers and service the entire valley.
Danny and his wife Kelley, who also works in the business have been married for 27 years.  They have a daughter, Jennifer, age 23, who is a nanny and house manager.  Their daughter Mallory, age 22, is a professional model, ASU student and also does accounts payable for Efficiency Mechanical.   Danny volunteers at the Gene Lewis Boxing Club 3 days a week and he and Kelley go to their home in Rocky Point as often as time allows.  (probably not enough). For more information about Efficiency Mechanical, contact Kelley or Danny Kregle at (480) or 497-5178

Why I Am Active with NARI ...

Mike Dennis, President of Custom Stoneworks
& 2010 Vice President and a Greater Phoenix NARI Board of Director

Aside from being beneficial for networking, sharing ideas and socializing, the NARI meetings many times we  have extremely informative guest speakers. Last September's was a true home run in my book.

Having Bill Mundell, the Director of the Registrar of Contractors with us, proved invaluable. Very few of us in the room were aware of the "sweeps" that the state legislature had made to the ROC financial accounts. NARI holds their members to a higher integrity level than the majority of non-member companies in the Valley. Therefore, we all have a high level of frustration at the inactivity of the ROC toward no-complying companies. Mr. Mundell brought us to a a clearer understanding as to how this occur and what we  might expect in the future, unless the legislature keeps their hand out of the ROC accounts. He also invited us to participate through delegation in the the monthly ROC Executive Meetings to combat this and other problems that consistently arise. We all must be informed and aware of the problems in our industry.

NARI through its members, is the organization which needs to "carry the banner." Informative meetings and speakers, such as Mr. Mundell go a long way to helping us help our industry.
