Did the EPA Delay the Lead RRP Rule?

The short answer to this is "no." The EPA's latest memo does NOT delay the implementation of lead-safe work practices and record-keeping.

The delay applies to the enforcement of certifications -- firms that are not yet certified with the EPA now have until October 1, 2010 and individuals who have not received training must be enrolled in a class by September 30, 2010 and complete training by December 31, 2010.

GP NARI's next lead training course is on July 21, 2010. Go to EPAleadclass.com for information and registration.

Happy July.

As I sit here, on the shore of Destruction Bay in Seward, Alaska, this early morning, I watch the cruise ships and cargo ships arrive with their cargo, different from each other but cargo, none the less and the tour boats leaving for the day with their passengers, and the charter boats hoping to satisfy their clients wishes to catch their limit of fish, I realize they all have one thing in common - taking care of business.

I feel grateful that I have this opportunity to be able to observe.  Sitting here allows me the time I need to be able to reflect on my business and how I am running it or it running me and take note of what I am doing correctly and what part of it could use a little adjustment.

It is so easy for any of us to be so involved in our businesses that we can't really see, objectively, what is happening with them, especially now with some uncertainty in the remodeling/housing industry as a sector and the economy as a whole.

Now that it is mid-year it might be a really good time to reflect on what took place the first half of the year and where you want to take your business the second half of the year and beyond.

Two good examples of this are George Brunell CR, AFS Building Group Inc. - his company works on their strategies at the end of each year and monitors them all year and Steve Shinn GCP - Home Work Remodels - he and his partner review their business strategies quarterly.

One of the things they have in common is - Go far enough away from your business to be able to look back with some sense of objectivity in order to make the big decisions.

Enjoy the review of your business. You might be surprised by what you find.

Sincerely,
Julie Cook

Floor and Decor   Disability Facts Might Surprise You...

Provided by Arlyne Haraburda, a Financial Representative with new NARI member Dollarhide Financial Group, representing Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) and other fine companies.

When it comes to protecting a portion of your income from disability risks, it's important to base your decision on facts. Some of those facts might surprise you.

For example, almost one-third of Americans entering the work force today will become disabled before they retire (1). And if you are covered by a group disability income policy through your employer, you might not know about the likely gap between your policy's benefits and your family's actual needs. And benefits are often taxable,
have maximum limits, and don't cover bonuses, commissions or 401(k) contributions. In some cases, worker's compensation helps bridge the gap, but most disabilities are caused by illness,[2] and only 10% of disabling accidents are work related.[3]

If you run a business, your insurance protection should help cover its operating costs, possibly provide the funds for a partnership buyout, and protect a portion of lost earnings - either yours or your employees'.

The most common way to close the gap between existing coverage and actual needs is to obtain a supplemental individual disability income insurance policy. Because you own it, you can take it with you throughout your career. And the best way to make a good decision about that policy is to work with a trusted, trained financial professional. No surprise there.
